MICRODERMABRASION

OVERVIEW

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, totally painless, non-surgical office procedure that renews the skin and creates a more youthful appearance. Microdermabrasion can be described as an intense exfoliation for the facial skin. The dead outer layers of the skin are removed by the application of a fine spray of crystals across the surface of the skin. These crystals “sand” the surface of the skin to gently abrade and exfoliate away dead and damaged skin cells. In addition, the skin is simultaneously treated with a suction device which removes the used crystal material, dead skin particles, and surface debris [clogged pores and blackheads]. This leaves the skin feeling clean and very soft and smooth.

The procedure also stimulates new collagen formation in the deeper layers of the skin [dermis] which improves skin tone and vitality. We have also observed that microdermabrasion helps diminish dark “age” spots in the skin.

The effects of microdermabrasion are cumulative there are several ways to pursue it.  Some patients like a “fast track” to smooth skin and receive microdermabrasion treatments once a week for two weeks, then once every two weeks X2, then once every three weeks X2, then every six weeeks thereafter.  Other patients prefer to pursue a more traditional approach:  one treatment followed by another two weeks later, then four weeks after that, and then every six weeks thereafter.

It is also important to understand that every procedure is not the same.  The results of microdermabrasion depend on the skill and agressiveness of the aesthetician, the power of the machinery, the frequency of the treatments, the type of masks applied at the end of the procedure and [importantly] the integrated skin program that the patient uses in between treatments. Naturally, we encourage our SkinGlow program for the best results.
