A facelift is a procedure performed on both men and women to treat sagging skin and deep creases of the face and neck. These are conditions that come naturally with aging, and the facelift procedure works to tighten underlying muscles and tissue, as well as eliminate excess skin. As part of the facelift procedure, we take great care to place any incisions so that they remain hidden after surgery. The end result of the procedure is to rejuvenate the face and neck and create a natural result that meets the patient’s aesthetic goals.
There are various techniques used today to perform a facelift. Facial anatomy, skin laxity and the overall aesthetic goal of the patient will determine the best approach. Each procedure will be unique to the patient and will vary based on the type and location of the incision, the number of tissue layers affected, the plane of elevation and the level of invasiveness. The final result is a far more natural appearance with no “distortion” sometimes seen in patients who have had an “overdone,” or “too tight” looking facelift.
All facelift procedures are performed under general anesthesia at an accredited surgical facility. The length of the surgery will vary, but it generally takes between 3-4 hours. Face/Neck Lift surgery is remarkably not associated with much discomfort. It is normal to experience bruising and swelling after the surgery and your face and neck will feel tight. This subsides within a couple of weeks. Patients need to understand it can take several full months for the final results to appear. It is very important that activities are limited to enable a safe and quick healing process.
