BUTTOCK AUGMENTATION | BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT

OVERVIEW

For many people, a firm, rounded backside represents their aesthetic ideal, leading them to seek correction for a rear that may look soft and saggy. While lifts elsewhere on the body tend to address drooping by tightening loose skin and trimming away excess tissue, a butt lift provides new contours via fat transfer. The fat-transfer buttock augmentation procedure is often referred to as a Brazilian butt lift, and it’s a surgery of choice for patients seeking a body that’s proportionate and balanced.

While Dr. Kludt performs butt lift surgeries via fat transfer, some other doctors use silicone implants or a mix of implants and fat transfer. Though implants work well for a surgery such as breast augmentation, Dr. Kludt finds that buttock augmentation implants can rotate after being put in place and can cause major side effects. This is why he focuses solely on fat transfer.

PROCEDURE

A Brazilian butt lift is an augmentation surgery that makes use of the patient’s own fat. This fat is taken from elsewhere on the body via liposuction, which also removes some fluids and tissue. After the doctor processes what’s been collected, the refined fat is injected into strategic areas to provide the effect of a butt lift. Fat transfer takes some time to resolve, as a patient’s own fat sets into place over the course of a year. Some of the fat will be reabsorbed by the body, leading to a slight decrease in projection from the initial results, but the augmentation is long lasting and will remain as long as the patient’s weight stays stable. Weight gain or loss can impact the fat in the buttocks, as it can anywhere on the body.

AFTERCARE

Following surgery, a compression garment is worn over the surgical site to expedite swelling reduction and to facilitate proper healing of the tissues.  You should expect to wear this garment for at least six weeks after surgery.  Most patients experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort, and take between one and two weeks off work.  During the first two weeks after surgery, you should sleep on your front, and avoid sitting for longer than thirty minutes at a time.  You can resume light gym activities in three weeks, and unrestricted activities in six weeks.
